If anyone remembers the classic Ducktales cartoon song, \”Ducktales Woohoo!!\” and the awesome Capcom NES game based on it back in 1989 then prepare to go \”quackers\”. An announcement was made by Capcom at this year\’s PAX East gaming conference in Boston, Mass. that a newly revised Ducktales Remastered is on its way. According to Nintendo Insider, the remastered game will launch for Wii U, PlayStation 3, and XBox 360 this summer.
The forgotten tale recalls uncle Scrooge McDuck traversing the world over for as much golden treasure he can to fill his giant safe so he can go swimming in it. Or, was that the cartoon he always did that in while climbing up a ladder and diving off a springboard? WayForward technologies, who created the hit games Mighty Switch Force, Shantae, and Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why\’d You Steal Our Garbage?, took the game\’s original levels and used them as a foundation to build off of with hand drawn and re-created graphics carrying a new paper craft aesthetic like those seen in Paper Mario. According to an article from Examiner.com there\’s also reports of the original cast from the show reprising their roles for the remake, including the Scrooge himself, Alan Young.
One new addition to the Remastered game will be Scrooge McDuck\’s Museum where players can compare their progress with others via global leader board.
Its not clear as to whether or not WayForward will choose to keep the original game\’s alternate endings or to just start fresh and offer a new ending. In the original game, when Scrooge McDuck reached the end of the game with at least $10, 000, 000 and has found both treasures, then the screen will show a newspaper with his picture celebrating his massive accomplishment of becoming the richest duck in the world. In the alternate ending the paper shows Scrooge McDuck with a crown on his head, and the paper also states that he \”stunned the world with his discovery of 2 Lost Treasures.\” In a second and less familiar ending the player would need to try and make $0 which is very, very, difficult. Then at the end the newspaper shows Scrooge crying and says that poor Scrooge has lost his fortune searching for the five lost treasures and that he will use them to help him rebuild his empire.
