Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has announced in the recent Nintendo Direct that Takashi Tezuka is on the helm as producer for upcoming 3DS game Yoshi\’s New Island.
Currently General Manager of EAD Software Development Department, Tezuka is one of the more prominent original EAD developers from the 8-bit era, and continued to stay relevant through the years. His curriculum vitae is an essential list of Nintendo games, including practically all the Mario platformers, many of the Zelda games, Pikmin 2, Luigi\’s Mansion and Star Fox 64.
When it comes to Yoshi, he basically worked on all the games, save Yoshi Topsy Turvy/Universal Gravitation. He also worked on the inspiration for the Yoshi series, the original Super Mario World.
This news allays fears about the development of Yoshi\’s New Island to a certain extent, as early previewers were down on the game\’s graphics and gameplay. A lot of blame was laid on Arzest, a company composed of many former developers of Artoon, which does not have a stellar reputation itself. If there is a developer who can turn it around for this game, it would be Tezuka for sure. You can watch the game\’s teaser trailer here.
