The latest NPD report for July, which accounts for sales of Video game hardware and software in the US, revealed that overall accessory sales for the month of July were down 5% year over year. However, two particular franchises did rather well – Disney Infinity and Lego Dimensions – which saw a 34% shift from Amiibo and Skylanders. This is likely do to the fact that Disney Infinity saw its cancellation and many perhaps went out to pick up figurines for the last time.
“July saw a 34 percentage point shift in dollar share away from Skylanders accessories and Amiibo to Disney Infinity accessories and Lego Dimension accessories,” NPD analyst Sam Naji told VentureBeat. “Although total spend for interactive gaming toys declined by 3 percent compared to last year, consumers spent an additional 55 percent on Disney Infinity accessories and $3 million on Lego Dimensions, which launched in September 2015.”
